Potcake Heat is a fictional business created through the prompt of analyzing a Caribbean country, in this case Turks and Caicos, and building a brand of hot sauce based on local tradition. The name “Potcake” comes from the stray dogs that live on the beaches of the island. The locals feed the stray dogs food that is stuck to the pots after meals, or what they call “pot cake”. I took inspiration from the local festival Maskaroo for the colors of the levels of heat. This was also the inspiration for the masquerade masks in the background of the labels. Also, the project was to simply create one label, I went above the expectations to create an entire series of sauces for the full range of heat.
Additions (2021)
In Spring 2021, I decided to revamp this project in one of my senior classes and take the company even further. I chose to create some merchandise that could be sold by the company as well as a few social media (Instagram story) advertisements for the five different levels of heat.
